Appreciating Our Docents!

12/27/05

At the 2005 THL Christmas party at the Apple Shed, almost 40 members enjoyed a delicious dinner, with fiddle music provided by Gayle Pitchford. The theme of the party was appreciating our docents for the many hours they put in at the Museum. A display of photographs highlighted many docents who served in past years.

Considering the opening hours of the Museum over the past 32 years, there have been 7,496 hours put in to keeping the doors open! That doesn’t include special events when the Museum is open longer hours. Nor does it include the hours volunteers spend at the Errea House, at meetings, maintaining the buildings and garden and all the other activities required to run the organization.

Just to mention a few of 2005’s helpers, Cathey Powell trained new docents and put in extra hours with them until they feel comfortable working on their own. Ernie Fong helped with maintenance on the Museum and the Errea House, with help from Mel McAllister. Del Troy and Jerrie Cowan usually gave the tours for seniors, students and other interested groups.

Among the regulars who worked in the Errea Garden were Anna Marie Swanson, Cathey Powell, Jerrie Cowan, Helen McAllister, Winifred and Don Hurst and others.

The 2005 list of docents, in addition to those listed above, includes Phyllis and Thurm Belcher, Barbara and Don Frahm, Pat Gracey, Winifred and Don Hurst, Jean Lind and Imogene Butts, Dorothy Morris, Flo Patton, Holly Turman, and Bruce Tracey. All told, the docents kept the Museum open 624 hours in 2005, not including holidays and special events.

Those who have served as docents from the very beginning of the Museum, and continue to serve today, are Del Troy, Jerrie Cowan and Winifred Hurst.

This list of docents doesn’t begin to cover all those who have served in the past 32 years, or the officers who served on the Boards throughout the years, but is meant to show appreciation for the dedicated individuals who helped keep the Museum open in 2005.
